AALJ Conducts Annual Educational Conferences on Important Issues Affecting Judges:

2016: 25th Annual Conference, on Professionalism and Productivity, Wyndham Bayside, San Diego, CA, October 25-27, 2016 - Conference materials.

2015: 24th Annual Educational Conference, Making the Right Decision, Orthopedic Impairments and Mental Impairments,Treatments and Vocational Implications, Hotel Monteleone New Orleans, October 27-29, 2015.

2014: 23rd Annual Conference, Savannah, October 7 to 9. 2014 Educational Conference:  Electronic Materials Including Presentations

2013: 22nd Annual Conference, El Dorado Hotel, Santa Fe, NM, October 1-3, 2013.  The Conference Theme was diabetes and its impact on other organ systems, treatment and vocational implications.

2012: 21st Annual Conference, Nashville, TN October 2-4, 2012.The Conference theme was "Tramatic Brain Injury - Medical and Vocational Issues"

2011: 20th Annual Conference, San Antonio, October 2-5, 2011. The Conference theme was "Chronic Pain Syndrome - Causes, Treatment and Vocational Limits

2010: 19th Annual Conference, New Orleans, October 5-7, 2010.The Conference theme was “Mental Health Disorders – Medical and Vocational Issues” There were additional sessions on ALJ security, Judicial Ethics, Circuit Case Law Update, Social Security and the APA, and more.

2009: 18th Annual Conference, Buffalo/Niagara, NY, October 6-8, 2009. The Conference theme was “Neurological Disorders.” There were additional sessions on Ethics, Social Security and the APA, Circuit Case Law Update, Technology and more.

2008: 17th Annual Conference, Portland, OR, August 12-14, 2008. The conference theme was “Disorders of the Immune System – Medical and Vocational Issues.” There were medical presentations on arthritis and other immunological diseases from doctors specializing in this area. Included among the small group discussions were several sessions addressing vocational expert testimony; efficient use of new technology; and a roundup of circuit law developments. The ethics presentations focused on real life ethical issues that each of us confront as judges.

2007: 16th Annual Conference, Providence, RI, July 24-26, 2007. The conference theme was “The Lumbar and Cervical Spine — Medical and Vocational Issues.” Sessions covered vocational testimony in spine impairment cases, evaluating drug addiction and alcoholism, developing the medical record, controlling the courtroom, retirement planning, and ethical matters facing the ALJ, and working with the Electronic Folder
